Knowing exactly where the sound was supposed to be coming from certainly helped compare the capability of the two surround sound products. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. For the past few years, I have been watching movies and TV listening through a Denon ADV-M71 minisystem that has Dolby Headphone and a dedicated headphone amp. With the Dolby Headphone, I have never been perfectly satisfied with the surround experience since it has never sounded like a proper 5.1 loudspeaker setup.
That lead me to look for other surround alternatives. I was aware of the small market for 5.1 surround headphones and had read most of the lackluster reviews. As expected, the sound quality on them was not a good as the E2C headphones. Dolby Headphone Test Tones Wav Plus They HaveThe only advantage was in bass reproduction where the Trittons had a slight edge, plus they have a rumble feature that helps enhance the effect. As for the surround sound, I used the THX audio setup on my daughters Finding Nemo DVD and the TXH cow demo at the beginning of the disc. I went back and forth between the two headphones and I found the surround effect remarkably the same. One thing I noticed on both was that the rear L and R test tones appeared to come from not only behind, but slightly below my head. Otherwise, all other test tones sounded like they were coming from where they were supposed to be coming from. Since the Trittons didnt give me an improved surround effect over the Dolby Headphone setup, they will be going back. At this point, I may look into getting some higher end Sures or similar canal earphones (I prefer this type because they are better for exercise) or just wait for a better headphone surround technology (Smyth SVS or Beyer Headzone look to be too rich for my blood).
